Setting Up Microsoft Authenticator

Overview

Microsoft Authenticator provides a secure and convenient way to verify your identity when signing in to your Daytona State College (DSC) account. This guide walks you through setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device and linking it to your DSC account.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A smartphone or tablet with internet access
  • The ability to install apps from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
  • A second device (computer, laptop, or tablet) to complete the setup process
  • Your DSC account credentials

Note: It is recommended that you use a computer for the setup process, as you will need to scan a QR code with your mobile device.

Steps

Step 1: Sign In to Your Security Information Page

  1. On your computer, open a web browser.
  2. Sign in using your DSC account credentials.

You will be taken to the Security info page.

  1. Select + Add sign-in method.

Step 2: Select Microsoft Authenticator

The Add a sign-in method window will appear.

  1. Select Microsoft Authenticator.
  2. Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device if you have not already done so.
  3. Once download and installation is complete, return to your computer and select Next.

Step 3: Add Your DSC Account to the App

  1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
  2. Select Add Account (+).
  3. Choose Work or School Account.
  4. Return to your computer and select Next.

Step 4: Scan the QR Code

  1. A QR code will appear on your computer screen.
  2. Using the Microsoft Authenticator app, scan the QR code.
  3. Wait for the account to be added successfully.
  4. Select Next on the computer.

Step 5: Complete the Test Verification

  1. Microsoft will send a test authentication request to your Authenticator app.
  2. Follow the instructions displayed on the computer screen.
  3. Approve the notification or enter the verification number as prompted.
  4. Once the test is successful, select Finish.

Step 6: Sign In with Microsoft Authenticator

Your DSC account is now connected to Microsoft Authenticator.

The next time you sign in to a DSC service protected by Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA):

  1. Enter your username and password.
  2. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app when prompted.
  3. Approve the sign-in request or enter the displayed verification number.
