Daytona State College runs a wireless network which is freely available to students, staff, faculty, and guests on each of our seven campuses. To provide the best combination of flexibility, security, and convenience, the college provides the following several options for wireless connectivity depending on your location:
Guest is an open wireless network that is accessible to visitors of the college. It is accessible by simply connecting from a wireless device and agreeing to an acceptable use policy.
DSC_Wireless is the recommended wireless network for students, faculty, and staff of Daytona State College. This wireless network provides members with access to college resources and the Internet by entering in their college user name and password.
Resident-Guest is an open wireless network that is only accessible to within the student dorm (Building 350 on the Daytona Beach campus). It is accessible by simply connecting from a wireless device and agreeing to an acceptable use policy.
Resident-WiFi is the recommended wireless network for students within the student dorm (Building 350 on the Daytona Beach campus). This wireless network provides members with access to college resources and the Internet by entering in their college user name and password.
The following guide is provided to assist with connecting a wireless device to the DSC_Wireless network. In general, the process requires selecting the DSC_Wireless network and entering your Daytona State College username and password. This will be the same username and password that is used throughout the college for other resources, including the MyDaytonState Portal and online mail. (If you do not remember your username or password, please contact the helpdesk at 386.506.3950 for assistance.)
Connecting Using Different Versions of Windows
1. Click on the wireless networking system tray icon for the version of Windows that your device is using. Select "DSC_Wireless" followed by "Connect".

2. You may be prompted with a message regarding the wireless network’s certificate information. To ensure that you have a secure connection, verify that the information on your screen matches the below information, then click “connect.”

3. Enter your Daytona State College username (for example, jane_smith@daytonastate.edu) and password. Click “OK.” Note: If you have forgotten your user name, password, or are having trouble logging in, please see the Troubleshooting section of this article.

4. You're now connected to the wireless network!
Apple Mac OS-X
1. Click on the wireless system tray icon. Select “DSC_Wireless.”
2. Ensure that the selection for “mode” is set to “automatic.”
Enter your Daytona State College username (for example, jane_smith@daytonastate.edu) and password. Click “Join.” Note: If you have forgotten your username, password, or are having trouble logging in, please see the Troubleshooting section.
3. You may be prompted with a message regarding the wireless network’s certificate information. To ensure that you have a secure connection, verify that the information on your screen matches the below information, then click “continue.”
4. You may be prompted to enter credentials for saving the trust settings for this network. Enter the username and password for your Mac administrator account**.

Note: **The Mac administrator account is a local computer account that may have been previously set up by you or another person/company that provided the Mac. If you have forgotten or do not know the Mac administrator password, click “cancel.” The connection will still proceed, but you may be prompted to examine the certificate each time you connect. If you wish for your Mac to stop presenting this prompt:

For a company-issued Mac, please contact your company’s IT department.

5. You are now connected to the wireless network!
Apple iPhone/iPad iOS
1. Open the “Settings” applet.
2. Tap the “Wi-Fi” option.
3. Tap the “DSC_Wireless” option.
4. Enter your Daytona State College username (for example, jane_smith@daytonastate.edu) and password. Click “Join.” Note: If you have forgotten your username, password, or are having trouble logging in, please see the Troubleshooting section.
5. You may be prompted with a message regarding the wireless network’s certificate information. To ensure that you have a secure connection, verify that the information on your screen matches the below information, then click “continue.”
6. You are now connected to the wireless network!
Android
Note: The following screens, information, and device support for the 802.1x wireless standard may vary depending on the brand and model of your Android device. This guide was developed using a device running Android 4.4.4 that supports 802.1x and has no carrier, manufacturer, or 3rd-party software modifications.
1, Open the application launcher on your device. (This may appear similar to one of the below icons.)
2. Open the “settings” applet. (This may appear similar to one of the below icons.)
3. Tap the “Wi-Fi” option.
4. Tap the “DSC_Wireless” option.
5. Configure the authentication settings listed below. NOTE: The exact settings available here may vary due to various differences in Android makes and models. The following settings are very common, and can be used if they are available on your phone.

6. Click ”connect.” You are now connected to the wireless network.!
Chromebook
1. Click on the wireless icon. (The icon may be in the tray or presented immediately at the Chromebook sign-in menu.)
2. Select “DSC_Wireless”.
3. Ensure that the following fields are entered as follows:

4. Click ”connect.” You are now connected to the wireless network!
Connecting to the Guest Wireless Network
The following guide is provided to assist with connecting a wireless device to the Guest network. Please note that, due its open and accessible nature, the ‘Guest’ wireless network is not secured with encryption, and is not intended for accessing internal resources that contain or transmit sensitive information. It is advisable that individuals using the Guest network take precautions to ensure that their online activities are secure, including the following:

Visit websites by using their secure web address. (This can be verified by ensuring that visited websites contain “https://” at the beginning of the web address bar.)

Verify that visited secure websites are authentic. (Generally, this can be verified by ensuring that a green padlock or another similar visual indicator is visible to the left of the web browser’s address bar.)
In order to the Guest wireless network:
Visit your wireless devices wireless network settings and select the ‘Guest’ network to connect. (Please see the step one in “Connecting to the DSC_Wireless network” for an illustration indicating where the wireless device settings can be found for most commonly used devices.)
If the Accepable Use Policy web page does not open automatically, open a web browser and navigate to a website, such as http://msn.com. You will be redirected to the Accepable Use Policy web page.
1. Click on the I Agree or Accept button.
2. Congratulations! You are now connected to the ‘Guest’ network.
Troubleshooting
Accessing the Internet from Guest
The ‘Guest’ wireless network contains a captive portal. This is a web page that visitors are redirected to prior to having full network access. Most relatively new devices can automatically detect and redirect visitors the captive portal page. If, however, a device does not properly detect the captive portal, the device may appear as connected to ‘Guest’ but be unable to visit external websites. The simplest way to resolve this issue is to navigate to a non-secure website (for example, http://www.msn.com). This will allow the device and the web browser to properly view the captive portal page and allow the visitor to click accept for full network connectivity.
Can’t Connect to DSC_Wireless (New Device)
If you cannot connect to DSC_Wireless and this is the first time attempting to connect with your device, please check the following:

Verify that your network account is not locked, and that your username and password are correct. This can be verified by using separate internet-connected device and logging into another college resource, such as:
Tip: You may also visit one of the above resources from your wireless device by temporarily connecting to our Guest wireless network. The Guest network is intended for temporary Wi-Fi access, and it does not require a username or password to connect.
If you are unable to log in to other college resources with your username and password, please contact the helpdesk at 386.506.3950 to ask for assistance.
Can’t Connect to DSC_Wireless (Previously Connected Device)
If your device was previously connected to DSC_Wireless and now no longer connects, verify that your device’s wireless settings are using the current and correct password.
In order to change the password, some devices may require removal of the existing wireless settings for DSC_Wireless. See “Removing DSC_Wireless Wireless Profile” to remove these wireless settings. Once removed, simply follow the instructions for “Connecting to the DSC_Wireless Wireless Network”

Forget a Wireless Network in Apple Mac OS-X
1. Click on the wireless tray icon, then select “Open Network Preferences.”
2, Click on the “advanced…” button.
3. Select “DSC_Wireless” and click on the remove (“—“) button. Press “OK.”
Forget a Wireless Network in Apple iPhone/iPad iOS
1. Open the “Settings” applet.
2. Tap the “Wi-Fi” option.
3. Next to the “DSC_Wireless” option, tap the information (“i”) icon.
4. Tap “Forget this Network.”
Forget a Wireless Network in Android
1. Open the application launcher on your device. (This may appear similar to one of the below icons.)
2. Open the “settings” applet. (This may appear similar to one of the below icons.)
3. Tap the “Wi-Fi” option.
4. Tap and hold the “DSC_Wireless” option.
5. Tap “Forget.”
Forget a Wireless Network in Windows 11
1. Click on the network tray icon, then click on the “>” arrow next to the wireless icon to Manage Wi-Fi Connections.
2. Right-click on “DSC_Wireless”, and click “Forget.’
Forget a Wireless Network in Windows 8, 8.1, and 10
1. Click on the wireless tray icon.
2. Right-click on “DSC_Wireless” and select “forget this network.”
Forget a Wireless Network in Chromebook
1. Click on the wireless icon, then select “settings.”
2. Select “Wi-Fi Network,” then select “DSC_Wireless”.
3. Uncheck “Automatically connect to this network,” then click “disconnect.”
