Description
The Center for Community College Student Engagement (CCCSE) administers a suite of national surveys designed to gauge institutional quality, student behaviors, and faculty perceptions in community colleges.
Core Survey Suite:
CCSSE (Community College Survey of Student Engagement): Administered in the spring term to mostly returning students. It evaluates time commitments, relationships with faculty, and five key benchmarks of effective educational practice.
SENSE (Survey of Entering Student Engagement): Administered in the fall term during the first few weeks of school. It functions as a front-door diagnostic tool focused on early student experiences like onboarding, orientation, and early relationship building.
CCFSSE (Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement): A companion online census survey for faculty. It measures instructor perceptions of student engagement and compares them directly against student responses.
DESSE (Dual Enrollment Survey of Student Engagement): Launched nationally in spring 2026. It is a specialized instrument designed to evaluate programs and outcomes for dually enrolled high school student populations

The SENSE Survey (short for the Survey of Entering Student Engagement) is a specialized diagnostic assessment administered to community and technical college students. Developed by the Center for Community College Student Engagement (CCCSE) at The University of Texas at Austin, it evaluates the student experience during the critical opening weeks of college.

Early Retention: It uncovers why some entering students persist and succeed while others drop out.
Front-Door Diagnostic: It analyzes early intake procedures, onboarding, and initial classroom experiences.
Institutional Action: The data highlights institutional strengths and gaps, allowing leaders to optimize academic and student support resources.
